Jim Laverty, Pastor of Equipping and Discipleship
"My heartbeat is to be passionately in love with Jesus and to be a pipeline of his compassion to people," says Jim. "Walking alongside my sisters and brothers from Souderton Mennonite Church (SMC) who are in the process of being transformed by the power of God, connected with God's family, and equipped to multiply Christ's love both locally and globally is where I sense God calling me to serve him."
Jim relocated to Souderton in June, 2001 following ten years of service with International Teams in Madrid and Zaragoza, Spain. Most recently he connected people in need with people who care while serving as the director of the Philadelphia Access Center in South Philly. He joined the staff at SMC on June 4, 2007. He is a graduate of Gordon College with a B.A. in English. He received his M.Div. degree from Biblical Seminary in Hatfield, PA.
Along with his wife Wendy, and daughters Emilee and Lindsey, Jim lives in Telford. He enjoys listening to various styles of music, travelling internationally, reading biographies, playing 1:1 kickball, and speaking Spanish. One of his favorite quotes is, "Expect great things from God, attempt great things for God" (William Carey, 1761-1834).
